The Bower family, consisting of eleven members including Grandpa Bower, Calvin, Katie, Alice, Sidney, and the younger children, relocates to the Dakota Territory. As they settle into the frontier life, they bring with them their musical talents and close-knit bonds, navigating the challenges of a new environment while holding onto their shared love of music.

Their arrival stirs tensions within the local community, including figures like Joe Carder, Mr. Wampler, and Charlie Wrenn, who have differing views on the family’s ambitions and presence in the area.
