The Mitchell family sets out on a cross-country road trip, with Katie Mitchell eager to showcase her filmmaking talents before starting college. Her father, Rick, tries to bond with her while managing the chaos of the family, which includes her mom, Linda, and younger brother, Aaron. Their journey is full of quirky moments and the challenges of keeping everyone together in the cramped Mitchell van as they travel from their home to Katie’s new school.
Suddenly, their ordinary trip is thrown into disarray when a global robot uprising begins, led by a tech company’s AI devices turning against humans. Trapped far from home, the Mitchells find themselves face-to-face with an army of machines determined to take over the world.
