The Breadwinner (2017)

In Taliban-controlled Kabul, Parvana is a determined young girl whose family faces extreme hardship after her father is arrested. With strict laws barring women from working or moving freely, Parvana takes on a daring plan: she cuts her hair and dresses as a boy to navigate the dangerous streets and earn money needed to support her family. Her new identity allows her to take on tasks that would otherwise be forbidden, but the risks she faces grow with each day.

As Parvana moves through the city, she encounters the harsh realities of life under Taliban rule, while also holding onto the stories her father used to tell. Characters like her mother and sister depend heavily on her bravery, and every interaction carries the tension of discovery. The story paints a vivid picture of a young girl’s courage in the face of oppression and the lengths she goes to protect those she loves.
