Barbie travels to New York City for the summer to attend the Handlers, a prestigious performing arts school, where she meets another girl named Barbie Roberts. The two quickly bond, distinguishing themselves by nicknaming each other Malibu and Brooklyn. Both share a passion for music and dance as they dive into their classes, eager to improve their skills and experience city life.

As the summer progresses, Malibu and Brooklyn find themselves competing for the coveted spotlight solo performance at the school’s final showcase. Their friendship is tested by their rivalry, and they must learn to navigate the challenges of competition while staying true to themselves. Amidst the bustling energy of New York and the pressure of the performing arts world, the two Barbies balance ambition with support for one another.
