If I remember correctly (it&#039;s been a while since I&#039;ve seen this one), it&#039;s done on purpose. While he is human, there are the black bars - perhaps signifying his short-sighted look on life - and when he turns into a bear, the movie goes widescreen, signifying he&#039;s now opening his eyes and expanding his horizons. A little bit like how in the original Wizard of Oz, the movie is in black &amp; white until Dorothy gets to Oz, and then it turns to color.]]></description>
